Karishma Vaswani is the BBC's Asia Business Correspondent, based in Singapore. She joined the corporation in 2003 as a rookie reporter for the BBC's Asia Business Report programme. Soon after she was promoted to the position of the BBC's first ever India Business Correspondent based in Mumbai and reported on the country’s economic boom during 2006 - 2009. She also launched the India Business Report programme for BBC World News and regularly filed for news programmes across the broadcaster’s output, including covering the two major terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Karishma was the face of the BBC’s Indian Election Train and fronted live coverage of the country’s elections in 2009. She was then made Indonesia correspondent, with responsibility for all news coverage from the archipelago. She covered the elections in South East Asia's largest economy in 2009 and 2014, and also the terrorist attack in 2009. In 2014 Karishma was promoted to the BBC's Indonesia Editor, running the BBC’s Indonesia bureau.

She has interviewed a wide range of world and business leaders from Singapore's former Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew, the Indonesian President Joko Widodo and India's central bank governor Raghuram Rajan. Karishma was born in Singapore and grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was educated at the prestigious Jakarta International School in Indonesia and the University of Warwick where she read English and American Literature. In between reporting she spends time with her two children, trying to raise them to be compassionate and kind global citizens. She also enjoys running and practicing yoga.
